Convicted of animal abuse, a farmer from Auffargis (Yvelines) was given a six-year suspended prison sentence by the Versailles court on Monday.

The trial was held last March, says

L'Echo Républicain

.

The sexagenarian had 93 underfed cattle removed between 2018 and 2019.

In 2016, several rotting cow corpses were discovered on his farm.

The exploitation of the mis en cause had then been the subject of more than 190 fines, reports Le Parisien.

The L214 association and the Brigitte Bardot Foundation, which recovered the starving cattle, had instituted civil proceedings.

Apart from the six-year suspended sentence, the sexagenarian was ordered to pay 15,000 euros for criminal offenses and 8,000 euros for unpaid fines.

He is also prohibited from owning an animal or carrying out an activity related to animals for five years.

The operator denies the facts and has ten days to appeal.
