Record-breaking winds and hail covered the ground!

Four questions why the most intense and strong convective weather this year is so strong

China Weather Network News began yesterday (April 11) afternoon. Due to the convergence of cold and warm air, many places in my country encountered the most intense and strong convective weather this year. Some areas such as Xinxiang in Henan and Handan in Hebei were covered with hail, and Anyue in Sichuan suffered a local 1951 Strongest wind of the year.

Why is this severe convective weather so strong?

Where will the strong convective weather "raid" in the next few days?

Zhang Juan, meteorological analyst of China Weather Network, will answer you one by one.

1. How strong is this severe convective weather?

Yesterday, the strong cold air moved eastward and southward, and strong convective weather raided many places in Hebei, Sichuan, Chongqing, Henan, Liaoning and other places. Handan in Hebei, Liaoyang in Liaoning, Xinxiang in Henan and other places were hit by hail, and the extreme wind speed in Anyue, Sichuan reached A magnitude 13 (37.4 m/s), the strongest local wind since 1951, is extremely rare.

In addition, there were strong winds in Chongqing late at night, and many people were awakened from their dreams at night.

Zhang Juan said that this is the most intense severe convective weather this year.

2. Why is the severe convective weather in the north and south so intense?

Zhang Juan analyzed that in the early stage, most of my country was dominated by warm air, and the temperature rose sharply. Many places were abnormally warmer than the same period of the year. When the cold air arrived, the energy accumulated in the atmosphere was stimulated, and this time the cold and warm air belonged to the strong and strong When they collide, they are not to be outdone, so they will stimulate a wide range of strong convective weather.

Although there are strong convective weather in the north and south, this time the cause is slightly different.

The strong convection in the north is mainly caused by the fierce confrontation of cold and warm air. Due to the general water vapor conditions, thunderstorms, strong winds and hail weather are the main factors. In the south, in addition to the confrontation of cold and warm air, there is also the eastward movement of the southern branch trough, and the help of the low-level southwest vortex. Short-term heavy rainfall was accompanied by strong convective weather such as strong instantaneous strong winds and thunderstorms.

Zhang Juan added that from the perspective of weather systems, the superimposed effects of several weather systems such as cold air, south branch trough, and southwest vortex have led to more intense strong convective weather in Sichuan and Chongqing.

3. Where will there be strong convective weather in the future?

As the cold air continues to move southward and the southwest vortex gradually moves eastward, scattered strong convective weather may also occur in Jiangnan and other places.

Zhang Juan said that from day to night, there will be short-term heavy precipitation in parts of central and western Hunan, central Jiangxi, eastern and southwestern Guizhou, western and northern Guangxi, and hourly rainfall of 20-40 mm. It can reach more than 50 mm; in addition, there will be local thunderstorms, strong winds or hail weather in southwestern Guizhou, southeastern Yunnan, western and northeastern Guangxi and other places, and the public in the above-mentioned areas should take precautions.

However, Zhang Juan said that the atmospheric convection energy in Jiangnan and other places is weaker than that in Sichuan last night, so the overall intensity and scale of strong convective weather are not as good as those in Sichuan.

4. How to take precautions against strong convective weather surprises?

Strong convective weather is unpredictable and destructive. The best defense is to avoid it in time. Once you receive a warning about strong convection issued by the meteorological station, you should take corresponding preventive measures in accordance with the requirements in the early warning, and must not be taken lightly.
