After having warned, for several weeks, about the risk of a gasoline shortage in the middle

of the soybean harvest

, road hauliers went on strike on Monday 11 April.

A situation that is no longer tenable

For Claudio Henry, secretary of the federation of Argentine carriers, the situation is no longer tenable: “

Two weeks ago, a liter of gasoline cost 120 pesos.

At the end of last week it was almost 200 pesos in many places.

Petrol stations have started rationing because the supply is insufficient.

 »

At the official rate, the price of a liter of gasoline has therefore gone from one euro to around 1.60 euro.

An increase that has drastically reduced the margin of carriers, who demand that freight rates be renegotiated taking into account

the increase in the price of gasoline

.

An indefinite strike

“

The strike is of unlimited duration, which means that until the government settles the questions of tariffs and supply, we will not lift it

”, explains secretary of the federation of Argentine carriers.

According to the unions, the strike movement is particularly followed.

In the port of Rosario, where 85% of Argentine agricultural exports leave, truck traffic was ten times lower than normal on Monday.
