The smoke was visible from afar this Tuesday noon.

Around 11:20 a.m., a fire broke out on the edge of the Nantes-Angers-Paris train tracks, at the Prairie de Mauves, in Nantes.

Dispatched to the scene, the firefighters carried out "the extinction of five caravans parked along the track", reports the departmental fire and rescue service (Sdis).

They were part of a camp of people exiled from Eastern Europe.

No injuries were reported, but rail traffic was interrupted for more than two hours, creating a lot of disruption during this school holiday period.

The trains resumed running normally around 2 p.m., indicates the SNCF.

Eleven people will have to be relocated with support from Nantes Métropole.
