• Health Ultimatum of the Madrid doctors to the Government of Ayuso: if it does not reduce its temporality there will be "forceful measures"

On December 11, 2020, the first patient with Covid was admitted to Zendal.

A year and four months later, in which the professionals of this Madrid hospital specializing in pandemics have treated

10,000 people

and given

two million vaccines

against the coronavirus, a new stage begins.

From now on, the main utility of this medical center will be that of

a Functional Rehabilitation Unit

(FRU) for patients with any pathology who, after overcoming a critical phase, "have serious sequelae and require multidisciplinary care to improve their state of health and recover their quality of life."

This "pioneer" resource in Spain is already located in one of the three pavilions of the facilities and initially has 54 beds that could be expanded to 100.

In addition, the Zendal will continue to be a

multifaceted center

to which, for example, the income from La Paz will be derived while the comprehensive reform works are carried out and where the Regional Public Health Laboratory and the coordination of Summa 112 have already been transferred. The last mission had been to act as a logistics epicenter for the aid that has been sent to Ukraine and for health care for the refugees who arrive fleeing the war.

The URF began operating in March of last year to exclusively care for patients with sequelae from Covid, 160 to date.

The Minister of Health,

Enrique Ruiz Escudero

, highlighted during a visit "the advantage of having a staff that is already trained, the infrastructure and the technical means available" to extend care fundamentally to people who have suffered cerebrovascular accidents, surgery orthopedic injuries or injuries that require specific rehabilitation.

A total of

170 professionals

will work in the new service , from internists to physiotherapists through speech therapists and X-ray technicians, and it has seven nursing controls, a gym and a living room for receiving visitors.

A protocol has been designed with the criteria for referral and transfer of patients according to their clinical profile.

Infections down

Meanwhile, coronavirus infections continue to decline in the Community of Madrid and the cumulative incidence at 14 days stands this Monday at

159 cases per 100,000 inhabitants

, reports Efe.

During the peak of the sixth wave, characterized by the high contagiousness of the omicron variant, the 1,000 barrier was surpassed.

The number of people hospitalized both on the ward and in intensive care units also continues to decline, where this Monday there were

48 patients:

of them, approximately 40% were admitted with Covid, that is, they need medical assistance for other pathologies even if they have tested positive.

The Minister of Health has appealed to the responsibility of the people of Madrid at Easter and recommends extreme precautions in places with crowds, reports Efe.

“It is true that when there is more social activity, infections have always increased, but we are going to see exactly how it occurs and as long as the healthcare data continues to decline, it is the best news,” Ruiz Escudero stressed.

Budgeted at 50 million euros, the final bill for Zendal tripled that figure, to

153 million

, and its need was highly questioned by the parties on the left, who accused President Isabel Díaz Ayuso of using it to carry out "propaganda". ».

Now the hospital is turning the page on the Covid pandemic by incorporating new uses.
