• As in 2017, Jean-Luc Mélenchon came out on top in Toulouse during the first round of the presidential election, ahead of Emmanuel Macron, whom he is ahead of by more than 10%.

  • A vote clearly on the left in the Pink City where the working-class neighborhoods have largely voted for the leader of the Insoumis.

  • Marine Le Pen comes first in the Occitanie region and for the first time, the far-right bloc exceeds the 15% mark in Toulouse in the first round of this election.

Bis repeated.

Five years ago, the Pink City placed Jean-Luc Mélenchon in the lead in the first round of the presidential election.

This Sunday, Toulouse voters again voted for the leader of the Insoumis by granting him 36.95% of their votes, up 7.78% compared to 2017.

If the last time he was closely followed by Emmanuel Macron, this time the outgoing President of the Republic is overtaken by more than 10% by the candidate of the Popular Union, even lowering his score by gathering only 51,972 voters, i.e. more 1,000 votes less than in 2017.

Mélenchon acclaimed in working-class neighborhoods

Jean-Luc Mélenchon certainly benefited from a useful vote on the left in the first round, the ecologist Yannick Jadot reaching 7.34%, ahead of the socialist Anne Hidalgo (2.56%) or the communist Fabien Roussel (2.07 %).

But also a real craze in the working-class neighborhoods of Toulouse.

At the national level, the actors of these territories had clearly called for support during the forum “We get involved”.

During its meeting on April 3 on the Place du Capitole, some of their representatives, in particular Salah Amokrane, had supported this position, assuring that they did not want "the Republic of equality and fraternity to stop at the edge of our neighborhoods.

If the participation was more at half mast there than in the rest of the city, the voters answered this call and voted massively for the rebellious.

In Empalot, Mirail or even Izards, it regularly exceeds 50% of the vote, and even reaches 82.19% in a polling station in Reynerie.

Marine Le Pen comes third with 9.55% of the vote.

If the candidate of the National Rally does not exceed the 10% mark in the Pink City, if we add her votes to those of Eric Zemmour (6.40%) and Nicolas Dupont-Aignan (1.2%), the far-right bloc exceeds the 17% vote mark.

A first in a city where you have to go back to the first round of 2002 and the 14.65% of Jean-Marie Le Pen to approach this score.

With only 3.8% of the vote in Toulouse, Valérie Pécresse, supported by the mayor Les Républicains de Toulouse, Jean-Luc Moudenc, recorded the worst result of the right in Toulouse during the presidential election.

Le Pen in the lead at the regional level

Results of the regional capital which are however not like those of the rest of Occitania.

Of all the thirteen departments that make it up, Marine Le Pen is in the lead with 24.62%, ahead of Emmanuel Macron (23.48%) and Jean-Luc Mélenchon (22.42%).

The candidate of the National Rally made big scores especially in the Pyrénées-Orientales, Gard, Tarn-et-Garonne and Aude where she exceeded the 30% mark, with breakthroughs in certain rural areas.

Only the department of Ariège, which has two rebellious deputies in its ranks, placed Jean-Luc Mélenchon in first place with 26.07%, ahead of Marine Le Pen and Emmanuel Macron.

Already, the left-wing elected representatives of Occitania, Carole Delga, the president of the Regional Council at the head, are calling for the union of the left and environmentalists in the next legislative elections.
