Dasha Synelnikova is the journalist from Kyiv who reported on how everyday life in her hometown changed brutally with the Russian invasion on 24 February.

- I woke up at 05.00 to the sound of explosions, she says.

Despite the war, Dasha wanted to stay in Kyiv.

But as the situation quickly worsened, she realized she was becoming a burden.

- I have many friends who are fighting in the territorial defense and the army and they urge all civilians to leave the area if they can.

Now living with a friend in Gothenburg

With the help of friends from all over Europe, Dasha managed to get from Kyiv to Gothenburg.

- All I got with me was my cat and some things I needed, such as medicine and ID documents, says Dasha.

- I am grateful that someone cared about me, my life, my security and future.
