The purpose of the meeting is for the highest party leadership to be granted a mandate to express support for a Swedish NATO application, according to Expressen.

- The meeting will be about NATO, says Emma Kareld at the Sweden Democrats' press department.

Party leader Jimmie Åkesson announced this weekend that he has turned around and says that if Finland joins the defense alliance, Sweden should follow suit.

But the party has traditionally been skeptical of such an application.

- If Finland were to move forward very quickly, there is talk of June, the question will really be asked.

Then, in my opinion, which has not been tried in the party board, we must also start that process as quickly as possible despite everything else, Åkesson told Svenska Dagbladet this weekend.

He has previously said that he does not rule out a quick yes to a Swedish NATO membership if the security situation requires it, or if Finland were to apply to the Defense Alliance.

In March, he and the party leadership received support for the party's election conference.
