China News Agency, Moscow, April 11 (Reporter Tian Bing) Russian President Vladimir Putin met with visiting Austrian Prime Minister Nehamer on April 11 and exchanged views on the situation in Ukraine.

The talks were held behind closed doors at the presidential residence in Novo Ogalyovo on the outskirts of Moscow.

Russian Presidential Press Secretary Peskov told the media later that day that the meeting between the two sides had ended, but did not disclose the details of the meeting.

He explained that the closed-door meeting was initiated by the Austrian side, and there were no plans to release images and media statements from the meeting.

Peskov told Russian media that he could not yet express any opinion on the content of the talks. "By recent standards, the talks are very short."

This is the first face-to-face contact between Russian and Austrian leaders since Nehamer became Austrian chancellor at the end of last year.

Nehamer is also the first EU leader to visit Russia and meet Putin since Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine.

Nehamer told the media after his meeting with Putin that the talks between the two sides were frank, direct and difficult, and both sides took a tough stand.

Austrian media, citing Nehamer's media statement, reported that this was not a "friendly visit".

During the talks, Nehamer called for an end to the war because there are no winners.

He conveyed to Putin that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wanted to hold direct talks with Putin.

The two sides also exchanged views on the establishment of humanitarian corridors.

Nehamer stressed that as long as there are still people dying in Ukraine, (Western) sanctions will continue and will be tougher.

Nehamer plans to discuss the talks with European partners and negotiate next steps.

Nehamer said in an interview with the media on the 10th that he offered to visit Russia to promote dialogue and ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.

He has consulted with European Commission President von der Leyen, German Chancellor Scholz and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the trip to Moscow.

Before his visit to Russia, Nehamer visited Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, on the 9th and held a meeting with Zelensky.
