Emmanuel Macron, like Marine Le Pen, did better than in 2017. On Sunday evening, the Macronists celebrated the qualification of their champion Porte de Versailles in Paris, designated HQ for the election evening.

The marching activists were happy, but a bit wary.

REPORT

There will therefore be a return match between Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen.

The Head of State came out on top in the first round of the presidential election with 27.6% of the vote.

The National Rally candidate won 23.4% of the vote.

At the headquarters of the president-candidate, when the results are announced, his supporters are exultant.

Happy activists, but above all reassured, like Thibault, Pauline and Danny.

"I thought I was happy if we were at 25% tonight, so I'm pretty happy," says the first activist.

"We thought the gap would be tighter. I'm proud of Emmanuel Macron," adds the second.

Good momentum for the second round

“We managed to have a rather nice gap with Marine, so I think we are on a certain dynamic. It bodes well for the second round”, explains Danny, LREM activist present at HQ.

The second round is on everyone's mind, but Véronique, tricolor in hand, refuses to claim victory.

"No it's never won. You have to be careful."

Just like Marc-Olivier, who says he is wary of the turn this in-between rounds could take.

"There will be work over the next two weeks because there is still a Marine Le Pen who is relatively strong and a Zemmour who is also relatively strong. Nothing is won," he analyzes.

Gather to win votes

"Nothing is won", a formula repeated Sunday evening by Emmanuel Macron, the president-candidate.

He knows he will have to work hard to get the majority of votes.

From this Monday morning, he will travel to Denain, in the North, a city where he only won 14% of the vote, when Marine Le Pen received 41% and Jean-Luc Mélenchon 28%.

A meeting in hostile lands, as if the campaign was really starting now for Emmanuel Macron.
