• Profile The rise of Rishi Sunak

The 'premier' Boris Johnson has ordered an official investigation into the finances of his Treasury secretary, Rishi Sunak, after it was revealed that his wife Akshata Murty (daughter of the Indian billionaire Narayana Murty) could have avoided paying 24 million euros in taxes for not being "domiciled" in the UK.

Johnson's decision comes hours after Rishi Sunak himself personally called for an investigation to deal with allegations that threaten to ruin his political career.

Sunak, 41, the son of Indian immigrants, was considered the favorite to "success" Boris Johnson at the most critical moments of 'Partygate'.

"I have always followed the rules and I hope that this investigation will serve to set the record straight

," Sunak said.

He fears the leak about the tax situation of his wife has come from the Labor Party or that it is even an internal revenge within the Conservative Party.

Downing Street has expressly denied any connection to the leaks.

The internal investigation will be led by Lord Christopher Geidt, although Labor 'number two' Angela Rayner has warned in advance that the findings may be as "censored and devalued" as senior civil servant Sue Gray's report on 'Partygate'.

According to Rayner, what would be appropriate would be a full-fledged parliamentary investigation to determine whether Rishi Sunak "has violated the ministerial code."

The rain of "revelations" about the fortune of Akshata Murty - "richer than the Queen" - started last week with the disclosure of his shares in Infosys, the technology company founded by his father, which continued to maintain business in Russia.

A few days later it emerged that Murthy receives an annual 13 million euros in dividends and that by

taking the legal status of "non-dom"

("not domiciled in the United Kingdom") he would have managed to avoid paying up to 24 million in taxes in recent years.

The accusations were personalized on Sunday about Sunak himself, for having maintained his "green card" of residence in the United States even after being appointed secretary of the Treasury.

Supposedly, Sunak continued to pay taxes to the US treasury until that year.

The Secretary of the Treasury did a master's degree at Stanford University after his time at Oxford and

has a second residence in California that he usually frequents with his wife and his two daughters
