Regarding the controversy within the party over his candidacy for mayor of Seoul, Song Young-gil, former leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, said, "In accordance with the constitution and bylaws of the party, the contest has been closed, so you can run the election accordingly."

Former Chairman Song held a press conference at the National Assembly and said, "Everyone may have different opinions about my candidacy. Then, you can ask the party members. Some members of the National Assembly are not going to force their opinions on the party members."

When the possibility of a strategic nomination was raised, saying that a new candidate should be found within the party even though the central party's application for nomination for Seoul mayor was closed, he refuted this head-on, and actively expressed his will to be elected as the party's candidate through the primary.

Former Chairman Song said, "If the first party with 172 seats runs the party in an idiotic fashion, it will be difficult for the public to understand." I have been judged by the people,” he said.

He said, "I cannot impress the people with the passive and foolish act of searching for 'ready-made honey', that is, a honey jar that has already been made, without giving them a chance to promote their promise through the primary by asking who can beat Mayor Oh Se-hoon." also said

Toward the Seoul local lawmakers who oppose his candidacy, Song said, "If you have such passion and time, shouldn't you be looking for a candidate for Seoul mayor and preparing for it?"

Regarding the future strategy, he said, "Mayor Oh Se-hoon and a candidate who can present the Democratic Party's real estate solution against the real estate policy of President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol is needed. “Next week, we will release a specific blueprint,” he said.
