The vast majority of the political class called, on the evening of Sunday April 10, to vote for outgoing President Emmanuel Macron in the second round of the presidential election against the far-right candidate Marine Le Pen, who on her side received the support of Éric Zemmour.

  • Those who call to vote Emmanuel Macron

From her campaign headquarters, socialist candidate Anne Hidalgo called on the French on Sunday to vote on April 24 "against the far right of Marine Le Pen by (using) the ballot paper Emmanuel Macron".

The communist candidate Fabien Roussel called for his part to "beat the extreme right, to put it in check, using the only ballot at our disposal", however asking the candidate Emmanuel Macron to "say that he heard the message" sent by the French.

Valérie Pécresse, candidate for the Les Républicains (LR) party, announced that she would vote "in conscience for Emmanuel Macron to prevent the coming to power of Marine Le Pen and the resulting chaos".

Recognizing that she is not "owner of the votes cast on (her) name", she invited her voters to weigh the "potentially disastrous consequences" of a choice different from hers.

The candidate of Europe Ecology-The Greens Yannick Jadot called for "blocking the far right by depositing an Emmanuel Macron ballot in the ballot box" against Marine Le Pen in the second round.

"Our vote is not worth guarantee" for the outgoing president, who must now "create the conditions for the rally to defeat the far right", he added.

LR deputy Guillaume Larrivé announced on Twitter that he would vote for Emmanuel Macron, who "has experience of the state and crises".

"Let's give him the strength to bring the French people together. Let's build, with him, a new majority to make France succeed," he added.

  • Those who exclude the Marine Le Pen vote

"We must not give a single vote to Mrs. Le Pen", affirmed three times from his HQ the candidate La France insoumise (LFI) Jean-Luc Mélenchon, without calling to vote for Emmanuel Macron.

"Not a voice should go to the far right," said New Anti-Capitalist Party (NPA) candidate Philippe Poutou from his headquarters, who also did not give voting instructions for Emmanuel Macron.

LFI deputy Adrien Quatennens confirmed on France 2 that his party would organize, as in 2017, an internal "consultation" for the second round.

"The far-right vote will not be an option" in this consultation, he stressed.

  • Those who call to vote Marine Le Pen

Éric Zemmour, despite his "disagreements" with Marine Le Pen, called on Sunday evening to vote for her.

"I will not be mistaken in my opponent. This is the reason why I call on my voters to vote for Marine Le Pen."

Marine Le Pen's niece, Marion Maréchal, joined Eric Zemmour, for her part, confirmed on TF1 that she would vote "personally" for her aunt.

  • Those who do not speak

Deputy LR Éric Ciotti refused to give a voting instruction for the second round.

"I do not recognize myself in (the) policy (of Emmanuel Macron), I will not support him," said Éric Ciotti on TF1.
