They were finally a little more than 2,000, to parade Saturday in the streets of Mérignac to save the racing circuit.

Owned by the town hall of Mérignac, but managed by a private subcontractor, this circuit has been hosting leisure car races for more than thirty years, and training companies related to driving and road safety.

The municipality had made known its wish to recover the site to set up economic activity and a reception area for travelers, and closed the circuit a few weeks ago.

In a press release, it also recalls that this closure "comes after seven years of litigation with the managing companies and the decision of the Bordeaux judicial court of June 17, 2021 which ordered the eviction of the occupants without right or title, and condemned them. to pay 200,000 euros in damages and 14,000 euros in monthly occupancy compensation from January 1, 2019.” The eviction was implemented by the prefecture last March in application of this judgment.

An opening to “relocate the circuit”

A delegation of demonstrators was received on Saturday at the town hall.

"At the end of this meeting, Mayor Alain Anziani seems not to understand the public utility of equipment authorizing, in a secure environment, the practice of sport as well as training in the control of his vehicle, whether at motorcycle or car "regrets the Federation of Angry Bikers (FFMC 33).

However, the association noted “a timid opening to start a dialogue in order to relocate the circuit.

The Mérignac site seems to be definitively buried.

Alain Anziani considers that “beyond legal litigation, maintaining such equipment in urban areas is not sustainable because of the noise pollution suffered by residents and many businesses, even in neighboring municipalities.
