An Israeli policeman was attacked with a knife this Sunday in the West Bank.

The assailant was killed, police said.

Indeed, Israeli security forces killed a Palestinian woman who stabbed a policeman in the center of Hebron, a large city in the southern occupied West Bank, a police spokesman said. 

The incident occurred near the Cave of the Patriarchs, also called the Ibrahimi Mosque, a holy place for both Judaism and Islam.

A Palestinian woman "came to a border police checkpoint to stab an officer", who was "slightly injured", the police unit said in a brief message to the press.

The incidents come as Israeli forces carry out an operation in the occupied northern West Bank in the wake of an attack that left three people dead Thursday night in Tel Aviv, which was carried out by a Palestinian from the Jenin refugee camp. .

Without claiming responsibility for the attack, a spokesman for the armed Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, Hazem Qassem, told Voice of al-Aqsa radio that this "operation is a response to the policy of ethnic displacement practiced". by Israel against "the Palestinian people inside the occupied territories".

According to Israeli police, the suspect, who has not been identified, stabbed a woman at a gas station, then ran over a cyclist with his car before continuing on to a nearby shopping mall.

It was one of the deadliest assaults in recent years in Israel.
