Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian said on Sunday that US President Joe Biden should lift some sanctions on Iran to show his goodwill toward reviving the nuclear deal.

The Iranian foreign minister stressed that "if Biden intends to lift sanctions and return to the nuclear agreement, he should issue an executive order to show his goodwill instead of applying sanctions to natural and legal persons in Iran."

"We have told the Americans on several occasions that they have to offer something tangible or two before any deal, for example by releasing some Iranian assets held in foreign banks," he added.

In a parallel context, Iranian official media reported today, Sunday, that parliamentarians set conditions for reviving the nuclear agreement;

Among them are legal guarantees that Washington will not withdraw from it and that the US Congress approves them.

The Iranian "Tasnim" news agency said that the deputies mentioned in a letter to President Ibrahim Raisi that the agreement should ensure that the mechanism by which sanctions are re-imposed on Iran will not be activated by Washington.

Iran and the United States held indirect talks in Vienna last year to revive the 2015 nuclear deal that former US President Donald Trump withdrew from in 2018, and Iran later violated its terms by ramping up its nuclear activities.

Negotiations are now suspended.

Tehran and Washington blame each other for not taking the necessary political decisions to settle the outstanding issues.
