Even if every incompletely or not at all vaccinated Ukraine refugee in Germany were vaccinated against Corona in the next few weeks, significant amounts of the federal vaccine would expire.

This emerges from a request from the Union faction to the government, which was first reported by the “Welt am Sonntag”.

According to the Federal Ministry of Health, there were 77 million vaccine doses in the federal warehouse on April 4, compared to 70 million on March 21.

At least eleven million of the stored cans expire at the end of June.

Another 57 million doses will expire in the third quarter.

The CDU health politician Tino Sorge accused Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) of a "shopping frenzy".

“The minister no longer knows any limits when it comes to vaccine orders.

He orders whatever is there – the actual need and the costs no longer play any role for him.”

Lauterbach had spoken of a vaccine shortage in December and accused his predecessor in office, Jens Spahn (CDU), of not having taken care of enough vaccines.

At that time he had ordered 80 million cans from the manufacturer Biontech and ten million cans from the company Moderna.

As of March 21, 27.4 million cans of Biontech, 40.2 million cans of Moderna and 1.3 million cans of Johnson & Johnson remained in central storage.

In addition, 700,000 doses of Novavax are said to have been there.

However, most people willing to vaccinate do not want this vaccine.

Lauterbach, who expressed his incomprehension about this, blames social media for it.

According to the Vaccination Dashboard, a total of 172.4 million vaccines have been vaccinated in Germany, and 76 percent of the population are basic immunized.

Recently, however, the rate of vaccination had fallen sharply.

After the failure of the general vaccination requirement from the age of 60 in the German Bundestag, it is not expected in Berlin that it will pick up again given the currently falling incidences.

If the pace of vaccinations continues at the current rate through the end of September, only about six million doses of vaccine would be needed by the end of September.

Lauterbach now wants to do everything possible to close the "huge vaccination gaps" among the Ukraine refugees as quickly as possible.
