The Ministry of Community Development called for the downloading of the “Son” smart system, which is intended for early detection of any type of abuse against the family or one of its members, at a time when official data indicate that the number of reports of family abuse that the ministry has received since the beginning of last year has reached 69 complaints, 43 of them were handled.

The ministry had launched the "Son" system as part of its initiatives announced last February, during the "Emirates Innovates" activities.

The system aims to detect early cases of abuse against family members by directing a series of questions to identify the information and facts that reveal the person’s condition, whether he is in a safe and stable situation, or if he is facing some kind of abuse, and whether he needs specialized consultations. So that the case is automatically transferred to specialists to intervene in the event the evaluation reaches the red line.

The person is also notified through a notification that he receives as soon as he finishes answering the questions.

The Ministry provides services for receiving reports of abuse, which is a service it provides to women, children, the elderly, men and people of determination, to protect them from violence and abuse in all its forms, and to preserve the safety of the family, by providing a safe environment enhanced by the principles of family cohesion and community cohesion.

Reports can be submitted through personal attendance, telephone contact, and the ministry's electronic and smart channels, which are announced on its website.

The duration of time required to deal with reports depends on the result of the assessment of the degree of risk in force in the relevant department, as it takes 24 hours if it is very dangerous, while it needs two working days if it is of medium severity.

The case is also dealt with within three to five working days if it is not serious.

The "Son" system available within the Ministry's smart application "Connect" identifies people with the phone numbers of the supporting bodies, and ways to provide the necessary assistance to those who are subject to abuse.

It also acquaints them with the necessary laws and information that guarantee the preservation of their safety and interests, and their enjoyment of quality of life in safe and stable conditions, in addition to raising their awareness of their rights and obligations in accordance with their perceptions.

The system contains awareness videos, encouraging them not to accept abuse, by resorting to appropriate methods and means.

In 2019, the Ministry announced the "Family Protection Policy", to be a reference document whose axes include legislation, laws, protection and intervention mechanisms, and studies, research and statistics related to protecting the family from any form of violence.

The policy identified six types of abuse that family members, or one of them, might be exposed to as a result of incorrect application of the concept of responsibility.

It also warned against ignoring or harming the rights of family members under protection, under penalty of legal liability.

The types of abuse identified by the policy include physical violence, verbal violence, psychological or moral violence, sexual violence, economic violence, and neglect, because of the psychological and physical damage it causes.

The Ministry also issued a "Family Protection Guide", in coordination and cooperation with the Ministry of Justice, where the guide is a reference documenting knowledge and information on ways to manage family crises.
