On April 7, local time, New York State Attorney General Letitia James asked a state court to order a civil contempt of court charge against former President Trump because Trump failed to hand over the previously subpoenaed, Documents related to Trump Organization business practices.

  Lexia Zhan also demanded that Trump be fined $10,000 a day until he handed over documents as required.

  Trump has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing and called the investigation a "witch hunt."

"We are prepared to stand firmly against the frivolous and baseless motions brought by the attorney general's office," said Trump's attorney, Alina Habba.

  Prosecutors in New York have been investigating whether the Trump Organization illegally inflated the value of its assets.

An accounting firm that had long worked with the Trump Organization abruptly cut off business ties, according to a court filing made public on February 14.

  Lexia Zhan is considering whether to file a civil lawsuit against the Trump Organization over alleged inflated financial statements.

In court filings, her office claimed that it had found "substantial evidence of substantial misrepresentation in the financial statements Trump provided to banks, insurance companies and the Internal Revenue Service."
