Kuwait

- The competition is fierce in Kuwait between 12 drama series during the month of Ramadan, and these works vary in the topics and issues they raise on the artistic scene in the country.

While some see the need to wait before issuing the evaluation of the dramas so that the artistic features of these series become clear, others see that Kuwaiti drama is a pioneer in the Gulf and offers works of art worthy of competition in the region.

The platforms that entered the competition recently helped create a new market for drama that can accommodate a larger number of works, in contrast to the existence of limited official channels in the past, which encouraged production companies to do more work.

New platforms

Kuwaiti art critic Laila Ahmed believes, in an interview with Al Jazeera Net, that the platforms encouraged producers to more series, other than the days of relying only on television and satellite channels, and most artists find Kuwait a suitable place to stay, where producers can easily access them and sign new works.

The series “From Al Haram Street” is one of the most prominent works this year, written by Heba Mashari Hamada, directed by Al-Muthanna Sobh, starring Hoda Hussein, Khaled Al-Buraiki, Laila Abdullah, Nour Al-Ghandour and others.

Its events revolve around a doctor, mother and a kind grandmother who sets the rules for the whole family, consisting of a mother, 6 sons, their wives and grandchildren, where no one has privacy in a home or even at work.

Critic Laila Ahmed explains that this series represents a measure of freedoms in Kuwait, as it caused a sensation before it was shown, and said, "Personally, I may disagree with some technical issues in the series, but I do not disagree with the proposal because the right of artistic expression is guaranteed for any drama that expresses a societal segment in the country and in the end Art is fun, informative and entertaining.

incohesive

The Kuwaiti critic referred to the series "Skyscraper" by the star Suad Abdullah, considering that it did not depart from the framework of social relations, adopting a talent and developing oneself, explaining that the idea is not coherent, as well as problems with directing and montage, "but people are associated with the star they love (Souad), so the series He's still being watched."

As for the series “Sunna Al-Jarish”, starring the life of the cheetah and Heba Al-Hussein, it discusses the historical period before World War I, the days of the British presence in the region during the 1940s, and what resulted from these wars, and the waiting for a mother to return her son Salem from the war, but he does not return.

As for the Bahraini artist Ahmed Saeed, who participated in the series "Love of the Baher", he says that the work talks about greed in the family of Saad, who is looking forward with his wife to reach the Al-Baher family despite the great social difference between them, considering that his role in the series as "Faisal Jaber" required a discovery to The extent to which a person chooses to be selfish and unjust and at the same time is oppressed.

character development

Said added in an interview with Al Jazeera Net, "He did many rehearsals until the character developed through discussions, and every time we tried new elements in the character and the director was communicating with me as an actor before he was a director."

He explained that his role in the series prompted him to read books on philosophy, psychology and anthropology, so that he could reincarnate and control the character.

For his part, the Egyptian critic and artist Mahmoud Abbas believes that the Ramadan season in Kuwait this year is witnessing a remarkable distinction in the quality and boldness of Kuwaiti drama topics, and at the forefront of these works is the series "From Al Haram Street", which sparked controversy in the Kuwaiti and Egyptian streets even before it was shown.

In an interview with Al-Jazeera Net, Abbas believes that the "skyscraper" directed by Issa Diab and starring Souad Abdullah, its events suddenly began with a quarrel and without introductions in front of a property owned by "Suad Abdullah" and its events follow in an incomprehensible way after the dramatic.

He adds that the Egyptian actress Rogina - who participates in the series "Kid Al Harem" with Hanadi Al-Kandari and directed by Mustafa Fikry - is trying to invest her overwhelming success in the character "Fadwa" in the Egyptian series "Al-Prince", which was shown during the Ramadan season before last, expecting the work to achieve great success on Gulf level.

In the series "Kid Al-Harem", Rogina plays the character of "Sumaya", the widow of a Kuwaiti husband, and faces life after him with her daughters, as she intertwines with the traditions of her husband's family in several issues, and with this conflict the original face of each party becomes clear, regardless of the differences, in a comic framework.

The series "Haya Al-Rouh" also comes through the heroine Haya, whose character is represented by angels, and despite her disability, she defies all circumstances and insists on confronting her, especially her uncle Mubarak, who left her in the care of Abd al-Rahman, her stepfather.

The Kuwaiti marathon continues to compete to attract the attention of viewers, and the result will not be decided until the end of this month and the announcement of followers from the audience and critics of their opinion on those dramas.
