Two companies were found guilty of manslaughter by the criminal court of Saint-Brieuc (Côtes-d'Armor) on Thursday.

These civil farming companies appeared after the death of a young 19-year-old employee in Ploëzal (Côtes-d'Armor) one night in July 2021. The trial took place in January 2022 but the justice system put the case under advisement, indicates

Fines and compensation

The two condemned entities will have to pay 87,000 euros in compensation for the damage suffered by the relatives of the victim.

The latter had brought civil action.

The companies have also been fined 25,000 euros each, to which is added another, collective and joint, of 10,000 euros.

During the trial, the lawyer for the young man's family had highlighted the difficulty of the schedules imposed on him by company officials.

The victim had worked eleven days in a row, he said.

The employee had been fatally injured by a hay baler which sucked him in before catching fire.
