It was after the school attack on 28 January 2021 that Varberg District Court sentenced the man to forensic psychiatric care with a special discharge trial for attempted murder against 13 people.

During the attack, the man, who was masked with a welding mask and armed with an ax, knives and firebombs, entered Peder Skrivare's school.

After slightly injuring a student in the hand, the 26-year-old voluntarily left school and was later arrested on Håstens torg in Varberg.

The Court of Appeal acquits of attempted murder

Although only one person was physically injured in the incident, the district court convicted the man of 13 counts of attempted murder.

The court ruled that he prepared and acted to murder.

However, the Court of Appeal does not consider that the man's actions should be assessed as attempted murder, but convicts him of assaulting one person and of unlawful threats against eleven people.

Considering that the man's actions were directed at young people in a school environment, that he was masked and armed and played frightening music, the Court of Appeal considers that all acts that are deemed to constitute illegal threats should be classified as serious crimes.

With regard to the sanction, the Court of Appeal comes to the same conclusion as the district court and sentences the man to forensic psychiatric care with a special discharge examination.

The man is said to have worn warning clothes and a welding mask when he walked around Peder's printer's school.
