An 18-year-old man was sentenced by the Béziers Criminal Court (Hérault) to 5 years in prison, including 6 months suspended, for throwing stones at police officers, and setting fire to a scooter in front of the police station.

Justice also prohibited him from staying in the Hérault and from possessing a weapon for 5 years.

On March 27, while police officers arrested a schoolboy on a scooter for refusing to comply, at La Devèze, in Béziers, they were the target of projectiles from individuals.

However, they failed to reach the police.

In front of the police station

One of the attackers was carrying a handgun.

Identified thanks to CCTV images, he was spotted in the evening, in front of the neighborhood police station.

With another man, he set fire to a scooter, stolen two days earlier.

The fire blackened the facade and damaged the metal curtain, as well as an apartment on the first floor.

He was arrested on April 5.

During his police custody, in contradiction to the CCTV images, reports the Béziers prosecutor's office, he claimed to have only pushed the scooter which had broken down, helped by an individual he did not know, and that the vehicle ignited on its own.

He admitted all the same to having thrown stones at the police officers, and to having been in possession of a handgun of the air soft type.
