Investigation of suspicious deaths.

The Montargis public prosecutor's office carried out a search in the nursing home of the Saint Jean de Briare hospital in Loiret, near Gien.

"These investigations are being carried out as part of a preliminary investigation following complaints filed by the families of the deceased" in January 2022, indicates the public prosecutor of Montargis, Loïc Abrial.

The prosecution “proceeded with the seizure of the medical files” of the patients and “findings were also made on the spot”.

The investigations are “aim to verify the circumstances” of these deaths.

“At this stage, the investigation, entrusted to the Montargis Research Brigade, is open against “X” and no person, natural or legal, is implicated”, adds the prosecutor.

Present during the search, the prosecutor of Montargis was accompanied by a doctor representing the Council of the Order of Doctors of Loiret and investigators from the national gendarmerie.

“Suspicion of manslaughter”

According to France Bleu Orléans, the prosecution would have opened "a preliminary investigation for suspicion of manslaughter".

Also according to the radio, the deceased may have shown signs of thinness, dehydration, purple traces.

Families would also have testified to what could be likened to a lack or absence of care.

According to France Bleu, one of the residents who died was 98 years old.

A private non-profit hospital, the Saint-Jean de Briare Hospital includes a medical service, an aftercare and rehabilitation service and an accommodation service with a medicalized retirement home with 65 beds.
