The Feldman Ecological Park in Kharkiv, Ukraine, said the zoo may have to euthanize its big cats, bears and other large animals after its enclosure was nearly destroyed by bombing.

Feldman Ecological Park said the removal of the big cats and bears was an operation that required "special transportation" and "a large number of people".

Many people in surrounding cities have come forward to volunteer to help.

According to reports, many animals have been evacuated, including great apes, turtles, birds, alpacas, a lion and a van full of kangaroos and wallabies.

Some animals that have the potential to survive independently and do not pose an imminent risk to humans, such as deer, are released into nature.
