and Morocco have agreed on a roadmap with which to launch in a coordinated manner in the "new stage" that is now opening in the bilateral relationship between the two countries.

"It is a historic and necessary moment. We are neighboring countries, friends, partners."

This is how the President of the Government expressed himself from the Palace of the Guests, within the complex of the Royal Palace of Rabat, where he met this Thursday with Mohamed VI on the occasion of the new road map in the bilateral relationship between Spain and Morocco.

As the President of the Government explained late this Thursday, Spain and Morocco have agreed to gradually open the borders in Ceuta and Melilla until "full normality" is achieved, progressively, among other reasons, due to the pandemic that still hits both countries.

The border crossings of both cities have been closed since March 2020.

In the same way, Sánchez and Mohamed VI have agreed that the work in which both countries already cooperate culminate in a High Level Meeting (RAN) that will have the end of this year as its maximum date.

The first point of the pact reached between Spain and Morocco affects the "recognition" of our country that the Moroccan proposal for the determination of Western Sahara is the "most serious, realistic and credible basis" to solve this issue.

Regarding the absence of any mention of the territorial integrity of the autonomous cities or the Canarian archipelago, to which reference was made in the letter sent by Sánchez to Rabat, the president has stated that "the national sovereignty of Spain is beyond all doubt. There is a commitment of the State and the jurisdictional system "that shields its security, in line with what was stated hours ago by Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares.

Sánchez has shown "hope and responsibility" that the new phase that both countries are facing represents and has highlighted the need to maintain good relations with Morocco and put aside all "unilateral" action.
