A 38-year-old Dutchman appeared on Monday before the correctional court of Albertville (Savoie) for facts dating back to January 14.

The defendant had that day been checked in Modane on his way to Italy.

A silent defendant

The 30-year-old was sentenced to three years in prison and a customs fine of 800,000 euros.

At his trial, he wished to remain silent.

His lawyer raised an irregularity, claiming that his client had been questioned in French and that the custody had been notified to the prosecutor too late.

However, these remarks have not been taken into account.

During his hearing, the respondent had said that he had agreed to transport packages of which he did not know the content.

He would have been paid 12,500 euros for this by an unknown person met in a bar in Amsterdam (Netherlands).
