China is facing a new corona wave.

The country has gone from an average of 400 cases per day in early March to about 10,000 daily cases in the past week.

The figures are low in comparison with the outside world, but a hard blow to China's so-called "zero vision".

Children are isolated without their parents

The worst affected is the city of millions, Shanghai, which is now forced to carry out the largest shutdown since the start of the pandemic.

Yesterday, the closure was extended to include all of the city's 25 million inhabitants.

- The corona is spreading like wildfire and basically the whole city is in lockdown.

If you are infected, you are taken to central quarantine, and this also applies to children, says Ulrika Bergsten, SVT's correspondent in China.

The shutdown is described as a logistical nightmare for the Chinese government, which must now make sure to feed the residents who are locked in their homes.

The decision to isolate infected children has also caused criticism on social media.

- Children under the age of seven are taken to special children's wards without their parents and the children over the age of seven are isolated with other unknown adults.

It has upset many, says Ulrika Bergsten, who says that the Chinese authorities will now make it easier for children to be isolated together with their parents.
