The proposal for a guarantee supplement for pensioners is based on an agreement between the then government, S and MP, and the Left Party.

It was part of V's demands to release Magdalena Andersson as Prime Minister last autumn.

Now the government goes ahead and presents the proposal as part of the spring change budget, Shekarabi announces.

"The need to rapidly improve the economy for low-income pensioners has become much greater as a result of the high electricity, fuel and food prices that have resulted from Putin's invasion of Ukraine," he said.

He estimates that about one million pensioners will get about 750 kronor more to live on a month with the proposal.

Half a million pensioners receive SEK 1,000 more in their wallets.
