Saint-Germain-en-Laye (Yvelines) once again shows its support for Ukraine at war.

Arnaud Péricard, the mayor of the city, hosted Ivan Fedorov, the mayor of Melitopol, for several days, reports 78actu.

According to the French elected official, the mayor of this Ukrainian city of 150,000 inhabitants was arrested and held captive for seven days.

Arnaud Péricard and several other mayors lobbied for his release.

"The President of the Republic relayed this pressure and he was able to be delivered", according to the councilor of Saint-Germain-en-Laye.

Received by Emmanuel Macron

The city of Yvelines also hosted four Ukrainian MPs.

One of them had been Arnaud Péricard's trainee ten years earlier.

All went to meet local volunteers who are mobilizing to help those displaced by war.

On April 1, the four Ukrainian elected officials were also received at the Elysée.

Emmanuel Macron renewed his support for them and pledged to continue France's efforts to end the war.
