According to Anna-Karin Rentoft Wivegg at the family home unit at Nyköping Municipality, the need is obvious.

Even though she can not give any exact figures, it is children who are currently waiting for a placement in a family home.

- We have a continuous need to expand our collaborations with families who may consider receiving children, she says.

Receives compensation

To be a family home, those who show up are paid a certain amount per child and month.

It is partly about a cost compensation and partly about a fee.

Exactly how large the sum will be varies depending on the child's needs and age.

But for a child between 0 and 12 years, the fee is at least SEK 6,600.

This is in accordance with Sweden's municipalities and regions' established framework, which Nyköping municipality also follows.

Secure the children's existence

The child has his or her own administrator and the family home in turn has a family home secretary who works to guide and support.

These two work together to ensure the child's existence in the new home.

- The goal is always for the children to be reunited with their biological parents.

But in some cases this is not possible and then the child needs to grow up in his family home, says Anna-Karin Rentoft Wivegg.
