On Wednesday evening, the Israeli occupation forces arrested 5 Palestinians in the Bab al-Amoud area in central occupied Jerusalem, at a time when a group of Israeli settlers, led by extremist rabbi Yehuda Glick, stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The official Palestinian News Agency stated that the occupation forces arrested 5 young men from Bab al-Amud, one of the entrances to the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, noting that a special unit of the Israeli army beat two young men before arresting them, while the occupation police arrested 3 other young men.

The Hebrew "Kan" channel (official) said that the police arrested 4 Palestinians after renewed clashes in Bab al-Amud, without further details.

Video clips broadcast by Jerusalemite activists on social media showed a special force of "undercoverers" during their arrest of a Palestinian child in Bab al-Amud.

Since the beginning of the month of Ramadan last Saturday, the Israeli occupation forces have arrested 38 Jerusalemites, some of whom are still in detention, while others have been released after decisions to remove them from Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Old City of Jerusalem and impose fines on them, according to the agency.

Since the beginning of Ramadan, the Bab al-Amoud area has witnessed great tension, amid attempts by the Israeli police to prevent the gathering of Palestinian youths in the place.

Palestinians usually gather heavily in the area during Ramadan, prompting the police to disperse them, causing tension in the holy city.

Earlier on Wednesday, a group of Israeli settlers, led by extremist Rabbi Yehuda Glick, stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque on the morning of the fifth day of Ramadan, under the protection of the occupation police.

Dozens of settlers appeared in circulating videos while wandering the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied Jerusalem, including former Knesset member Glick.

Earlier, Israeli security reports warned of the possibility of a flare-up in the field conditions in the Palestinian territories, especially in Jerusalem, during the month of Ramadan, as a result of these incursions and provocations carried out by Israeli settlers.

In 2003, the Israeli police began allowing such incursions, despite the rejection of the Islamic Endowment Department in Jerusalem.
