For eight days, Olga and Volodymyr Rublenko spent almost all of their time in their basement while fighter jets bombed their hometown of Kharkiv.

- Fighter jets flew from the Russian border, I saw how they flew and dropped their bombs and then turn back, says Olga Rublenko while Volodymyr adds that all aircraft did not return because they were shot down by the Ukrainian army.

"Rockets flew over our heads"

It was after this time that the couple decided to flee the country on the ninth day if they survived the night.

- We were afraid of not being able to get ahead, of being killed.

But when we became even more rescued, when rockets flew over our heads and we saw fighter jets, then we decided, says Olga Rublenko.

Packed life in bags

After a long journey, the couple came home to their son Denys in Boden.

They have still not calmed down, but are trying to adapt to as good a life as possible.

Both feel a certain guilt of having gotten away from the war.

- I feel bad about being safe, while my family is left and shot.

It's for her sake that I'm here, says Volodymyr Rublenko, pointing to his wife.

"Evil will be defeated"

Although the war is still not over, Olga and Volodymyr Rublenko are fully convinced that they can one day return home.

- All wars have their end.

Evil will be defeated - and Putin is evil, says Volodymyr Rublenko.
