China: Corona's situation is very critical..a race against time to control it

The municipal authorities in the Chinese city of Shanghai announced yesterday (Tuesday) that the closure imposed due to the emerging coronavirus (Covid-19) will be extended indefinitely for 26 million residents of the city.

Referring to the significant increase in cases of coronavirus infection, Deputy Secretary-General of the Shanghai Government Ju Honghui described the situation as a "race against time," adding: "The virus is spreading quickly and in a hidden way," stressing that "the situation is very critical."

Officials are still awaiting the results of the mass coronavirus tests conducted on Monday.

The injured must be transferred to quarantine facilities.

And the Beijing Health Commission recorded more than 16,000 new infections yesterday, which is the highest number in the current wave of the Corona virus in China and the worst in two years.

More than 15,000 of the registered cases did not show symptoms.

In Shanghai alone, 268 new cases of COVID-19 and more than 13,000 asymptomatic infections were reported after mass testing in the past few days.

The Jilin Province in northeastern China was also severely affected.

The city has recorded more than 70,000 injuries since the beginning of March.

On Monday, more than 10,000 injuries were recorded for the first time.

With the imposition of closures and orders to stay at home, complaints about the lack of food are mounting.

Joe acknowledged the difficulties, but said the authorities were working to provide food and basic goods to the residents.
