A terrible road accident claimed the lives of three people on Tuesday in Châteauneuf-de-Gadagne, near Avignon (Vaucluse).

The three victims, who were in the same car, are young people aged 19 to 21, reports

A head-on collision between two cars, a Peugeot 206 housing four young people and a 4x4 with a forty-year-old at the wheel, occurred around 5 p.m.

Thirty firefighters were mobilized.

Two young people died instantly and the third died about thirty minutes later, on the spot, despite attempts at resuscitation.

An ongoing investigation

The two survivors are the driver of the 4x4, slightly injured, and the young driver of the Peugeot.

Seriously injured, she was transported in a state of absolute emergency to the hospital.

A gendarmerie investigation to determine the precise causes of the accident has been opened.

Dangerous overtaking and excessive traffic speed could be the cause.
