An 80-year-old woman died on Tuesday after drowning in Lake Annecy (Haute-Savoie).

Rescuers failed to resuscitate her after bringing her back to dry land, reports France 3 Auvergne Rhône-Alpes.

Witnesses alerted firefighters in the early afternoon, shortly after 2:40 p.m., after seeing a small boat capsize on the lake.

Two elderly people were on board the boat.

A 76-year-old man hospitalized

Haute-Savoie firefighters intervened and brought the two victims to shore.

In cardiac arrest, the octogenarian was immediately taken care of by the emergency services.

But she could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second victim, a 76-year-old man in a state of hypothermia, was also taken care of.

He was transported in absolute urgency to the Annecy hospital center.
