Just a few minutes before Volodímir Zelensky addresses the Congress of Deputies, the United Left has accused the Ukrainian president of having "anti-democratic gestures", referring to the "suppression" of eleven political parties in Ukraine as part of the martial law applied in recent weeks following the Russian invasion.

"Suppressing the activity of 11 political parties violates the civil rights of the Ukrainian people and adds to the outlawing of the Communist Party and the attack on unions initiated by Poroshenko", has been expressed from the party commanded by the Minister of Consumption, Alberto Garzón.

"These anti-democratic gestures are unacceptable in an EU candidate country."

IU's message has been published through social networks one hour after Zelenski's intervention before the Lower House begins.

In this sense, from the formation it has been remarked that the "institutional respect" that the party will have this Tuesday before the Ukrainian president is compatible with the "condemnation" of certain measures adopted in recent weeks.

"Our position on some measures taken by Zelensky is critical, and institutional respect does not mean that we do not condemn them," the statement said.

For the party, the only way to reach the end of the conflict is through "a diplomatic solution" and with the activation "of a European collective security system."

"We demand that Spain and the EU accompany the negotiations between the parties and continue to guarantee the reception of refugees," settles the text released by IU.
