The images of dead bodies in Butja have aroused the disgust of the outside world.

At least 300 civilians are said to have been found dead in the city, which until last week was controlled by Russian forces.

Several have been found with tied hands and bullet holes in the back of the head.

The Kremlin denies any involvement and claims that those bodies were in fact placed on the streets after Russian troops left the city around March 30.

Pure lies, according to SVT's Moscow correspondent Bert Sundström.

Identified 11 bodies

An investigation by the New York Times now shows that several of the dead may have been on the streets for several weeks, long before the Russian soldiers left the city.

The magazine has published photos from the satellite company Maxar Technologies that show how dead bodies are scattered across the street Yablonska as early as March 11.

The pictures have in turn been compared with pictures from a local politician, who filmed dead bodies along the street on April 1.

Eleven of the bodies filmed on April 1 also appear on the satellite images from March 11, the review shows.
