This Tuesday morning, certain sectors of the Bordeaux metropolis found themselves smoky, as in 2021, in connection with the burning devices put in place since the night of Saturday to Sunday in the vineyards, to protect them from frost.

"The fumes have been present since this weekend but they were particularly visible this morning because of the lack of wind", explains Julie Gault, communication officer at Atmo, the association for monitoring air quality in New Aquitaine.

Today we got up in the smoke!

No thresholds exceeded during the day

Straw and burnt wood emit fine particles (PM10) and suspended particles (PM2.5), pollutants monitored daily at the Atmo.

“Burning practices take place during the coolest hours, ie only a few hours a day, which is not enough to have an impact on the thresholds, reduced to the daily average”, specifies Julie Gault.

The emissions could nevertheless inconvenience residents, especially among the most vulnerable.

It's worth having an eco-friendly mayor who will save us with bike paths.

At 11 a.m. on Tuesday, the smoke began to clear.

The last frost warning ended overnight Monday to Tuesday, so burning operations are expected to cease.
