The young man was hit by a tram while trying to flee his attackers in mid-February.

At the request of the Head of State, Emmanuel Macron's cabinet called the parents of Jérémy Cohen on Monday.

The president asked the Keeper of the Seals to keep him personally informed, said the Elysée on Tuesday, confirming information from

This drama sparked reactions on Monday from several presidential candidates who are worried that it has an anti-Semitic character and are demanding full light on its circumstances.

"Message of Compassion"

The president's office spoke to the mother and then the father of the victim, Jeremy Cohen, on the telephone "to send them a message of compassion and to let them know that, in respect for the independence of justice, all means of investigation will be implemented to identify the perpetrators of this attack and shed light on this affair”.

On Wednesday February 16, shortly after 8 p.m., this young man, suffering from an invisible disability as his family told Radio Shalom, was crossing the railway tracks when he was hit by the tram in Bobigny (Seine-Saint -Denis) after being beaten by young people.

He died in hospital.

“Did he die because he was a Jew?

»

Marine Le Pen mentioned in a tweet what “could be an anti-Semitic murder” while her rival Eric Zemmour also tweeted: “Is he dead because Jewish?

".

This hypothesis was not mentioned by the Bobigny prosecution in a press release on Monday.

At the end of February, Jérémy Cohen was assassinated, crushed under a tram in his flight following the beating by a gang.

What was presented as an accident could be an anti-Semitic murder.

How to explain the silence on this affair and its motivations?

“All light must be shed” on this tragedy, for their part asked two other presidential candidates, Jean-Luc Mélenchon (LFI) and Yannick Jadot (EELV).

Monday evening, Gérald Cohen, the young man's father, explained on BFMTV to have "asked Eric Zemmour if he could help us with the investigation".

"He tried to help us so that the investigation would not be closed or stifled," he added.

"Voluntary violence in meetings resulting in death"

An initial investigation had been opened to determine the circumstances of the death.

“The hypothesis that the victim crossed the tram tracks to escape his attackers was naturally taken into account,” said Bobigny prosecutor Eric Mathais in his press release.

On March 29, a judicial investigation was opened on the grounds of "intentional violence in a meeting resulting in death without the intention of giving it", continued the prosecutor.
