A 28-year-old man was the subject of an immediate appearance on Monday before the court in Bayonne (Pyrénées-Atlantiques).

He will also be prohibited for five years from entering France.

Financial motivation

The respondent explained during his trial that he acted to make money.

He said he followed the example of a friend and went to Irún to offer to escort migrants.

He would have made six trips since March 31, charging 80 euros or less to each passenger.

The car he was driving had been intercepted this Saturday at the Biriatou tollbooth (Pyrénées-Atlantiques).

In addition to the driver carrying 750 euros in cash, four individuals in an irregular situation were on board.

During the hearing, the prosecutor had requested eight months in prison with a warrant of committal and seven years of inadmissibility.
