Disclosure of a plot to assassinate an Arab president and his prime minister

An intelligence agency has warned of a terrorist plot to target an Arab president and his prime minister, as part of a conspiracy run by a prominent member of a terrorist movement affiliated with Al-Qaeda.

"We have informed key government officials of a plot in which the Al-Shabaab mafia wants to target President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed and Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Robley," Somalia's National Intelligence and Security Agency said on Twitter.

The violence of the movement, which aims to overthrow the central government and impose its hard-line vision of Islamic law, has been an obstacle to parliamentary elections that have been taking place since November.
