9 new symptoms are added to the official list of Corona symptoms in Britain, and a new strain of Omicron appears there, along with the latest data on “Long Covid” and “Post Covid” syndrome.

We review them in this report.

Update the list of symptoms of COVID-19

We start from the “National Health Service” (NHS) in Britain, where the list of symptoms of Covid-19 was updated, according to a publication on its website, and a report in the “Sky News” website.

The official list of COVID-19 symptoms was expanded and included 9 new signs of the disease, including headache, diarrhea and stuffy nose.

Prof Tim Spector, who is the chief scientist for the Zoe COVID-19 symptom tracking app, said updating the list of symptoms could help reduce infection.

The three classic symptoms found on the NHS website are:

  • fever

  • A new and persistent cough

  • Loss or change in taste or smell

9 new symptoms of corona

The new symptoms were added to the National Health Service's website, along with the previous three classic symptoms.

The new symptoms are:

  • Shortness of breath

  • Feeling tired or exhausted

  • body ache

  • a headache

  • Sore throat

  • stuffy or runny nose

  • Anorexia

  • Diarrhea

  • feeling sick or sick

  • A note on the National Health Service's website adds that "symptoms are very similar to those of other illnesses, such as colds and flu."

    Both the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the United States had longer lists of symptoms for some time;

But in the UK, he's been on the National Health Service's list of just 3 symptoms for about two years.

Criticism of the delay in expanding the list of symptoms of corona

In March, Professor Spector strongly criticized the government's refusal to recognize a wide range of symptoms.

He pointed out that failure to recognize the broader list of diseases that afflict people with the virus, along with the decision to drop isolation advice and withdraw free tests, may lead to higher rates of transmission of the virus.

The Office for National Statistics said last Friday that an estimated 4.9 million people in the United Kingdom contracted Covid-19 in the week ending March 26, up from 4.3 million in the previous week.

It was estimated that about one in every 13 people in England contracted the virus during that week.

A new strain of Corona combines the original Omicron strain and the Phantom strain

A new variant of Omicron called XE has been found in the UK, but it is too early to determine its prevalence, according to a report in The Independent.

Hundreds of cases of XE have been detected in England, but experts are still investigating the level of risk.

Experts say it's too early to tell if it's more transmissible than previous strains.

    What is an xe mutator?

XE is a mutant resulting from a heterozygous mutation of BA.1 omicron (original omicron strain) and BA.2 (ghost omicron strain), which are referred to as "recombinant" or hybrid strain.

And "variants" are a version of the virus that contains a group of mutations, that is, changes in its genetic material.

As for "recombinant" strains - such as the XE strain - they are the result of mixing two viruses that branch from an original virus, that is, two different strains of the same virus.

The UK's Health Security Agency (UKHSCA) said it was studying Xe, adding that as of March 22nd, 637 cases of XE had been detected in England.

    Higher growth rate than ghost

Early growth rates (increased incidence and prevalence) of the XE strain did not differ significantly from the Stealth Omicron.

But using the most recent data as of March 16, 2022, it now had a growth rate of 9.8% higher than the ghost Omicron, the UK's Health Security Agency said.

The authority warned that since this estimate did not remain constant - as new data were added, it cannot yet be interpreted as a change that carries an increase in the growth of the hybrid strain.

Prof Susan Hopkins, senior medical advisor at the UK's Health Security Agency, said hybrid mutants were not uncommon and usually died "relatively quickly".

"This recombinant, Xe, showed a variable growth rate and we cannot confirm whether it has a real growth advantage (an advantage in increasing cases compared to Omicron)... so far there is not enough evidence to draw conclusions," Hopkins told The Sun. about transmissibility, severity, or efficacy of the vaccine.

    What is Post-Covid Syndrome?

Some of the problems of the Corona virus Covid-19 in some patients last for more than 4 weeks of infection with what is known as “Long Covid” or “Long Covid” or for more than 12 weeks of infection with what is known as “Ma After Covid” (Post Covid), note that the two cases are collected under one name, which is “Post Covid Syndrome”.

    Post-Covid Syndrome Symptoms

Professor Carmen Schebenbogen explained - in statements to the German News Agency - that the symptoms of "post-Covid syndrome" are:

    • Constant feeling of tiredness and exhaustion

    • Decreased ability to exert

    • Poor concentration and thinking difficulties

    • headache

    • muscle pain

    • extremity pain

    • Fear, anxiety and stress

    • low mood

    • Sleep disorders

    • Vertigo

    • nausea

    • hair loss

The head of the "Exhaustion Syndrome" center of the Charité Hospital in the German capital, Berlin, added that the post-Covid syndrome often affects adults, diabetics, hypertensive patients and asthmatics, as well as obese people.

    Unknown causes of post-covid syndrome

The German professor added that the causes of this syndrome are not precisely known so far, but doctors believe that it is due to the weak response of the immune system against the virus or the excessive response of the immune system against it, or the continued inflammation of some parts of the body due to the virus or the low level of oxygen in the blood, and then Slow recovery process or exacerbation of some chronic diseases due to the virus.

    doctor consultation

The German professor stressed the need to consult a doctor, especially if the syndrome is accompanied by serious symptoms such as irregular heartbeat, shortness of breath, shortness of breath, tingling, numbness and paralysis.

In addition to drug treatment, post-Covid syndrome can also be faced by following a healthy lifestyle based on healthy nutrition, that is, eating 5 servings of fresh vegetables and fruits per day, while eating meat at a rate of no more than 300 to 600 grams per week.

It is also important to quit smoking and reduce caffeine consumption, in addition to slowing the rhythm of life in order to avoid feeling tired and exhausted quickly.
