The images from Butja, the suburb of Kyiv that was taken early by the Russian invading forces, have shaken the whole world.

Today, Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelenskyj walked the streets where hundreds of civilian casualties have been found since the Russian forces withdrew.

Some have been found thrown into carelessly filled pits.

Others tied to the back at the roadside, murdered with a shot to the back of the head.

Additional victims have been discovered in basements that appear to have served as torture chambers.

When asked by one of the many international journalists who took part in the visit, which took place under strict military surveillance, Zelensky answered the prospect of peace as follows:

- It is very difficult to negotiate with Russia when you see what they have done here.
