Three million letters: Hesse informs homeowners about the new property tax

Contrary to the original plans, owners in Hesse are now being informed about the new property tax via personal letters.

In June, the Hessian Ministry of Finance will send out three million letters with the respective file number for the process, a checklist for preparing the declaration and data on the situation of the property.

The Ministry of Finance announced that this should make it as easy as possible for owners in Hesse to submit the revised property tax.

The property tax must be reformed after a judgment of the Federal Constitutional Court.

New property tax from 2025 onwards

The new calculation, which will be more dependent on the situation in the future, among other things, will only take effect in 2025. But owners of land, houses, apartments and of agricultural and forestry operations must provide the necessary data this year.

They have four months, from the beginning of June to the end of October, to do this.
