The correctional court of Albertville (Savoie) sentenced a 41-year-old man to a six-month suspended prison sentence on Thursday.

The defendant was the subject of an immediate appearance for "violence on a cohabiting partner in recidivism".

Six months after the violence on his companion, the individual struck her again on March 27, reports

Alcohol and violence

The accused, drunk, had gone to the gendarmerie, claiming that his girlfriend had hit him in the face with a bottle.

He had explained that he had drunk to celebrate the birth of his baby.

The baby's mother said it was actually her partner who punched her in the jaw when she tried to pull the newborn from her hands.

The father's state of intoxication had indeed made him fear for the safety of the child.

At trial, the defendant stated that he was not an alcoholic.

He said his partner had accused him of violence "because she panicked at hitting me with this bottle".
