Lavrov accuses Ukraine of fabricating the Bucha events

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Monday the Ukrainian version of what happened in the town of Bucha was a "fake attack" aimed at undermining Moscow, the TASS news agency reported.

Ukrainian authorities said they were investigating possible crimes committed by Russian forces after hundreds of bodies were found scattered around towns like Bucha outside the capital, Kyiv, after the Russian withdrawal from the region.

Lavrov said the pictures of the bodies were "theatrical" and that a false Ukrainian version of events was spread on social media by Western countries and Kiev.

Lavrov also called on Britain, which holds the presidency of the UN Security Council for the month of April, to assume its responsibilities after it rejected Russia's request for a meeting on Bucha.
