Today, Monday, the foreign ministers of 5 Arab countries will visit the Russian capital, Moscow, to hold consultations and contacts to contribute to finding a diplomatic solution to the crisis in Ukraine.

According to a statement by the Arab League, a delegation of the contact group at the ministerial level is holding talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow, followed by a visit to Poland on Tuesday to hold talks with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba.

The Arab Contact Group includes foreign ministers: Jordan, Algeria, Sudan, Iraq and Egypt, in addition to the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit.

The ministerial group was formed by a decision of the League Council at its 157th session at the level of foreign ministers, which was held in Cairo on March 9, with the aim of holding consultations with the parties concerned with the Ukrainian crisis to find a diplomatic solution to it.

According to a statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry today, Monday, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry headed to Moscow, and later to Warsaw, as part of a visit to the contact group at the ministerial level, in implementation of the outcomes of the Arab League Council.

A statement by the Algerian Foreign Ministry also stated that Minister Ramtane Lamamra participated in a visit to Moscow, to start consultations on the crisis in Ukraine, and to discuss prospects for efforts to calm down and reduce tension, to reach a political solution.

Local media in Jordan reported that Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi will start a visit to Moscow to hold consultations with the Russian side, followed by a visit to Warsaw to meet the Ukrainian side.

While the Iraqi Ashur Special Agency announced the visit of 5 Arab foreign ministers - including the Iraqi Fouad Hussein - to Russia and Poland, in order to listen to the positions of the two parties in light of the latest security and political developments of the crisis in Ukraine.
