One of the glimmers of light in today's report from the UN's climate panel, the IPCC, was that the transition to renewables seems to be going faster than previously thought.

This is believed to be due to the fact that the price of solar cells has fallen by 85 percent since 2010.

In Utrecht outside Amsterdam, there is now Europe's first energy-positive high-rise building - it thus produces more electricity and heat than it disposes of.

The house has received new insulating facades that are mass-produced in factories and installed in just a few days.

Today, another 5,000 old houses have received new facades and solar panels in the project called Energisprånget.

- They are largely self-sufficient, you can do without fossil fuels.

In the end, everyone benefits, except the energy companies, says Sanna de Wit who works with Energisprånget.
