A 23-year-old man was violently attacked by a police dog this Friday evening in Charleville-Mézières (Ardennes).

The police had been called that evening for a fight outside a bar in the city, reports France 3 Grand-Est.

The victim assures that she came out of another bar and had nothing to do with the fight in progress.

But the police dog brought by the officers managed to unmuzzle himself and attacked the young man, biting him violently on both calves.

The victim had to be operated on.

Each of his legs required no less than 30 stitches.

The dog examined by a veterinarian

On the spot just after the facts, a policeman himself advised the young man to file a complaint.

An investigation has already been opened by the Charleville-Mézières prosecutor's office.

The investigations will focus "both on the initial violence which justified the intervention of the police, and what happened during this intervention", according to the public prosecutor.

The latter also reminds us that a police dog is not trained to bite.

This Friday's attack is therefore very unusual and light must be shed on the circumstances of the attack.

The animal should also be examined by a veterinarian, and may be euthanized depending on the results of the investigations.
